On-Site Coaching
A Hidden Sparks “coach” spends a day a week for five years, working with teams of Judaic and General studies teachers to:
- Conduct classroom-based student observations
- Mentor teachers
- Facilitate monthly Hidden Spark meetings to review learning profiles and teaching strategies for struggling learners
Educators learn about neurodevelopment, temperament, and ecology, giving them greater insight into their students. Topics explored include:
- Attention
- Memory
- Language
- Sequencing
- Social Cognition
- Higher order thinking
- Temperament
The program is structured in five phases, and every phase includes targeted goals. The goals follow a natural developmental sequence: each phase builds on the one before it, with progress marked by mastery of the skills in the previous stage.
While the five phases often align with years in the program, they may not. Schools join Hidden Sparks at different points – some begin with the first steps in Phase One, while others are ready to start further along.
Before getting started, Hidden Sparks staff will meet with each school to determine the phase that best matches its current strengths and needs.
Having Hidden Sparks coaches work with the teachers has been a boon to Shulamith. They have contributed to more dialogue, collaboration, and reflection on student learning.
